So it definitely fitted the \u201cI have no space to sew in\u201d bill!<strong> I also really liked the possible contrasting of belt, skirt and bottom band<\/strong>, perfect for my current <a href=\"https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/en\/2020\/05\/30\/summer-stripes-my-m7952-dress\/\">stripe frenzy<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The skirt closes on the side with an invisible zip at the skirt and buttons at the belt. <\/strong>Instead of making button holes with my rather unreliable sewing machine, <strong>I experimented with (my daughter\u2019s hair) elastics: I folded them in two to create a button hole, then sewn them into the margin allowance on the side of the skirt.<\/strong> The hardest part was to align the buttons and get a good fit at the waist &#8211; but this is due to the very large belt, despite the pretty look I would have made it narrower had I known&#8230; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"598\" height=\"895\" src=\"https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/1203C587-0D6B-471E-BD94-B0F594742AA1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4011\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/1203C587-0D6B-471E-BD94-B0F594742AA1.jpeg 598w, https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/1203C587-0D6B-471E-BD94-B0F594742AA1-200x300.jpeg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It was all good to have a skirt and I tried to wear all kinds of top to go with it &#8211; I even made<a href=\"https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/en\/2020\/05\/18\/my-second-blossom-cardigan\/\"> a cardigan just for this skirt<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"684\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/415BFBB5-7C87-4FE0-9CF9-E961F024E4A9-684x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4015\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/415BFBB5-7C87-4FE0-9CF9-E961F024E4A9-684x1024.jpeg 684w, https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/415BFBB5-7C87-4FE0-9CF9-E961F024E4A9-200x300.jpeg 200w, https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/415BFBB5-7C87-4FE0-9CF9-E961F024E4A9-768x1149.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/415BFBB5-7C87-4FE0-9CF9-E961F024E4A9-1027x1536.jpeg 1027w, https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/415BFBB5-7C87-4FE0-9CF9-E961F024E4A9-rotated.jpeg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 684px) 100vw, 684px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But this is a summer skirt, it definitely called for a summer top and I am a matchy-matchy girl. <strong>So I searched and searched top patterns (which I am obviously not familiar with at all) and found  <a href=\"https:\/\/mccall.com\/m7958\">McCall\u2019s M7958<\/a><\/strong>, which suited me for several reasons: <strong>it looked easy to make, was (decently) cropped, and it came with several bust cup options, yessssss!!!!<\/strong> McCall\u2019s and Vogue pattern always fit me like a glove and I am a huge fan but the bust options are always the cherry on the cake, as  I am not the one making the FBA!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"745\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/5FDF5AAF-BF23-4BFE-9AA4-6DCD8A7A0D18-745x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4017\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/5FDF5AAF-BF23-4BFE-9AA4-6DCD8A7A0D18-745x1024.jpeg 745w, https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/5FDF5AAF-BF23-4BFE-9AA4-6DCD8A7A0D18-218x300.jpeg 218w, https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/5FDF5AAF-BF23-4BFE-9AA4-6DCD8A7A0D18-768x1056.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/5FDF5AAF-BF23-4BFE-9AA4-6DCD8A7A0D18.jpeg 931w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 745px) 100vw, 745px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I was too impatient to wait for the post and the pattern was luckily available online (which is a very recent option for McCall\u2019s pattern, not available for all their patterns) so <strong>I went the PDF wa<\/strong>y. Clearly <strong>McCall\u2019s PDFs are not fully up to speed<\/strong>, compared to many independent pattern companies: they take a while to be available on their website once you\u2019ve ordered them; the files are not super easy to naviguate (the instructions in particular look a bit grim); and <strong>there was a mistake in one of the pattern pieces, which was missing 1cm in width<\/strong> &#8211; lucky I made a muslin and corrected this before cutting into my fabric! <a href=\"http:\/\/emilyhallman.com\/\">Emily Hallmann<\/a> had also mentioned a mistake in a PDF she recently used too so just be very careful!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That put aside, <strong>the pattern was perfect as ever<\/strong>. I picked view C and cut a size 10 with D bust cup (as I always do) and the fit was spot-on, without adjustment needed except slightly narrowing the top of the back. It is all lined so the inside finish is exactly as I like. I had difficulty fitting the shoulder straps but I widened them, to make them bra-friendly, so I think that\u2019s what caused the problem.
