You start with three stitches, increase by one stitch on each side at each row and knit your way through six skeins of Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk, knitted in double thread on size 6 to 8 needles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/7A544A32-5BA8-4BFE-8271-95297B14AF71-768x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/7A544A32-5BA8-4BFE-8271-95297B14AF71-768x1023.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/7A544A32-5BA8-4BFE-8271-95297B14AF71-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/7A544A32-5BA8-4BFE-8271-95297B14AF71.jpeg 869w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Trendy helped me to get back to knitting. However after about ten of them and a number of self-drafted jumper ( because I feared the complexity of knitting patterns), I was fully ready for something more challenging. <strong>When the Blossom Shawl pattern was released, it was love at first sight! &#8211; I particularly like the pattern.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/F2BBF0B4-5CA5-4A09-929E-E95FC9812F60.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3213\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/F2BBF0B4-5CA5-4A09-929E-E95FC9812F60.jpeg 640w, https:\/\/sixmignons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/F2BBF0B4-5CA5-4A09-929E-E95FC9812F60-300x225.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This shawl is perfect for a novice like me, because it does not have any of the shaping inherent to a jumper <\/strong>&#8211; you create a triangle by making increases every other row; <strong>and because the number of \u201cexotic\u201d stitches (other than knit and purl) is very limited<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Before starting, I made sure I knew what all of them meant<\/strong> <strong>by using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.knittinghelp.com\/videos\/knitting-glossary\">my favourite ever website for this purpose<\/a><\/strong> (which also exists as an app), which shows all stitches you can imagine both in the continental and the English methods. The ones you need to know for Blossom, on top of knit and purl, are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>yo = yarn over<\/li><li>k2tog = knit 2 together<\/li><li>SSK = slip slip knit<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And that\u2019s it! Not a lot of technique frankly. <strong>What I found most difficult what not to get lost in the chart, especially at the beginning of the shawl<\/strong>, when the rows are quite short and the lace motif doesn\u2019t repeat. <strong>Do not lose hope though as it get easier with longer rows<\/strong>, as the lace motif starts repeating and is easy to memorise. The other positive is that you get a break every other row, as each wrong side row is only purl stitches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I knitted with size 4 needles (instead of the recommended 4.5, my knitting is very loose) and <strong>I used a combination of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.woolwarehouse.co.uk\/yarn\/drops-baby-merino-heather-34-50g\">Drops baby merino in Heather (34)<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.woolwarehouse.co.uk\/yarn\/drops-kid-silk-dark-rose-17-25g\">Drops kid silk in Dark rose (17)<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; which gave me recommended gauge. So my purchases were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/product\/B012OF6BWY\/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&amp;psc=1\"><strong>2 set of 9 foam tiles<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; the cheaper I could find on Amazon, as baby safety is not my concern anymore sadly.
